Street Series to fire up Willowbank Raceway season

Willowbank Raceway’s 2015 competitive season will spring into action this weekend with the opening round of the Queensland track’s Street Series taking place this Saturday.

A strong field of local racers is expected for the hotly contested Street Sedan, Street Bike and Powder Puff brackets.

Defending Street Bike champion Ken Rice is focussed on going back-to-back in 2015, but said the competition will be fierce.

“I am really looking forward to getting back on the track and hopefully I can at least win a couple of races each round and hopefully make it into the top eight once again,” Rice said.

“We haven’t made any changes to the bike at all over the off-season as we feel we are onto a good thing. There are a lot of good racers set to run this year though, so anything could happen.

“The Street Series provides a good show with good close racing. It is a great series to watch and be involved in.”

The Harley rider also has aspirations to run a second bike this year, and is in the process of building an entry for the Queensland Drag Racing Championship.

“We have plans in the works for getting a new bike on the track later in the year for the Modified Bike category,” Rice confirmed.

Willowbank Raceway CEO said the Street Series is the most affordable, no-fuss way to become involved in the sport and is looking forward to a bumper series in 2015.

“It is easy to get started, and you can be as serious or relaxed about it as you like while being part of an organised, safe and highly competitive racing series created around what they love – showing what their vehicle can do on the race track,” Manson said.

“I can’t wait to see what our local heroes have in store for us this year – there are sure to be a lot of returning as well as new faces on the track as we officially kick off our competitive season.”

Time trials for Saturday’s meeting commence at 4:30pm, with racing from 7:00pm. Further competitor and spectator information is available at www.willowbankraceway.com.au .
