The long-standing ANDRA Drag Racing Pro Stock Motorcycle rivalry between Maurice Allen and Luke Crowley is set to continue at the Fuchs Springnationals where Allen hopes to reel in the championship leader.
Allen and Crowley have been locked in a battle of supremacy for the better part of two years with races between them repeatedly coming down to the narrowest margins.
This weekend Allen knows he has to be on his game in qualifying if he’s to have a chance of close the 84-point difference.
“It all starts with qualifying. You’ve got to qualify well and unfortunately I’ve qualified second behind Luke which has meant I’ve had to do all the racing in the first round and the semis. If anything we’ve put pressure back on him to improve his game and I’ve obviously got to look at that area and improve,” Allen said.
“We’re obviously disappointed with the outcome of the end of the season and losing a round makes it pretty tough. We’ll aim to be consistent like we always do, you’ve got to be there at the end to at least have a shot.”
Last time the pair met, at the Fuchs Winternationals, it was Crowley who held the upper hand. This weekend Allen hopes to replicate February 2013 when he beat his rival by three-tenths of a second at Adelaide International Raceway.
“We just have to put our best foot forward as a race team and go out there, make every round count and make our sponsor, Milwaukee proud. It’s all we can aim for and all we can hope for,” he said.
“You create your own luck in racing and the team will be doing it’s best to turn that around this weekend.”
The Fuchs Spring Nationals will see one of the strongest Pro Stock Motorcycle fields this season alongside Top Fuel, Top Doorslammer and the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship.
Qualifying takes place from 9:00am on Saturday with eliminations starting from 9:00am on Sunday.
