Lucas Oils’ Matt Forbes inches toward second Super Gas championship

Matt Forbes is one step away from securing back-to-back ANDRA Drag Racing Series Super Gas titles after winning the Fuchs Spring Nationals in Adelaide on the weekend.

Forbes debuted his new Lucas Oil Corvette Roadster where he went on to defeat Peter Datsun in the final and maintain his 12-month winning streak.

The reigning champion says he’s surprised at how quickly he and the team came to terms with the new car.

“The Lucas Oil Corvette was fast and predictable all weekend. I knew after testing on Wednesday it was going to be strong, but I didn’t expect it to be good as it was in its first event in Australia,” Forbes said.

“It’s great to debut this car with a win. We had a lot of success in the old Lucas Oil Roadster and the Corvette is looking even stronger.”

Forbes has a stranglehold on the ANDRA Drag Racing Sup Gas championship, heading into the final round at Sydney with the category’s maximum 300 points.

Despite remaining undefeated all season, Forbes is wary of the competition he faces at the Australian Nationals on 31 October – November 2.

“There are a lot of guys who will be out to stop me from claiming the title in Sydney. This win has given me a lot of confidence ahead of the final round and just need to focus on making sure I don’t make any mistakes early on,” Forbes said.
