Sainty Funny CarWhen you think Sainty Racing and you think "Top Fuel". However, behind closed doors in the middle of the night whilst most of us are sleeping, the secret Sainty elves have been quietly working on a Top Alcohol Funny Car.

Just Drag Racing can announce today than the new "Blind Obsession" Funny Car car is very close to being race ready and will run the full 2014 ANDRA Top Alcohol Championship season.

At the wheel of the new Funny Car will be Mark Hinchelwood; AKA the driver of the Motorsport Connections crazy 6 second  turbo altered.

Willowbank to catch eighth mile fever next weekend

Dylan Leo - Junior DragsterEighth-mile fever will once again come to Willowbank Raceway next weekend with Queensland's premier drag racing facility readying to host the penultimate round of the 2013 JP Racing Eighth Mile Drag Racing Series on Saturday 3 August.

Organisers expect more than 100 racers to head to the Ipswich venue for round three of the Series which is currently in its third year as it continues to bring prestige racing to the regional facilities of South East Queensland.

Series organiser John Winterburn said the Series was growing from strength to strength thanks to its recipe of quality racing, camaraderie and fantastic regional locations.

Fuchs to power a second LTFR Top Fuel car

Fuchs Lubricants has thrown their support behind a second Top Fuel carFuchs Lubricants has thrown their support behind a second Top Fuel car for the Lamattina Top Fuel Racing operation, with John Lamattina set to drive the team's new car at the Calder Park round as well as the season concluding Australian Nationals at Sydney Dragway.

The second car is going to feature some new chassis technology and will wear a new livery to compliment the 'chrome bullet' driven by older brother Phil.

Fuchs Lubricants Australasia's Managing Director Wayne Hoiles was please to make the announcement.

"Our brand position is 'Lubricants. Technology. People.' and with LTFR we have an opportunity to test our lubricants in one of the most extreme environments possible, implement the latest technology and in the LTFR team, we know we have the right people – it's a great match."

Tucker hangs up helmet

Shane Tucker retiresAustralian Pro Stock gun, Shane Tucker, has made the tough decision to quit racing the bracket that has seen him become one of the sport’s most recognised and promotable faces.

After graduating from drag racing’s entry-level Junior Dragster category, Tucker went on to race a number of Pro Stock cars under the Rob Tucker Racing banner, culminating in a dominant performance at the recent Fuchs Winternationals in the Monster Energy GXP.

“It’s one of the hardest things I have ever had to do,” explained Tucker.

“It brings a tear to my eye, but I have had eight great years racing Pro Stock and we have had some great memories and have achieved some great things.”

Pro spotlight on Hidden Valley

Hidden Valley Drag StripThe next ANDRA Drag Racing Series event will be a historic occasion when Top Alcohol and Top Bike race for championship points at Hidden Valley Drag Strip for the first time.

The venue went through a $4.6 million upgrade from 2010 to 2011, bringing it to an international standard. The work included a complete resurface of the track as well as the installation of a concrete surface to the 330 feet mark, upgraded safety barriers, a new burnout pad, the installation of Australia's largest readout (timing) boards and an improved spectator viewing area.

The concrete launch area in particular won awards for its flatness which allows high horsepower vehicles to get all their power down without having to worry about any bumps along the way.

Changes lower rollcage limits for modern street vehicles

ANDRAThe Australian National Drag Racing Association is set to make big changes to its rules for street cars, with modern 'street registered' vehicles being permitted to run without roll cages down to a limit of 10.00 seconds for the first time.

Under the new safety rules, vehicles manufactured post January 1, 2008 will be able to run as quick as 10.00 seconds and as fast as 140mph (225.30kph) (whichever is reached first) for the quarter mile without a roll cage.

Simpson part of national champion onslaught at Benaraby

Jason Simpson - Super StockFive reigning national drag racing champions will be putting on a show of their skills at Queensland's Benaraby Raceway this weekend for round eight of the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship.

Among them will be Alexandra Hills' Jason Simpson, a national Super Stock champion and record holder, who will be aiming to show Benaraby that he means business when his Ford Capri, capable of accelerating to 250kmh in just over eight seconds, hits the track.

"It's my first time racing at Benaraby and I've heard from some teams that have been there that it's a good track with a fun atmosphere," he said. "We want to come out and support the local Queensland tracks and while we will enjoy it you're of course aiming to bring home the win as well."

Horsepower a way of life for Willox family

Daniel Willox - Junior DragsterFamily ties are an integral part of the sport of drag racing and in Australia's 'red centre' it is no different.

Alice Springs Inland Dragway plays host to the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship for the first time on June 28-29 as part of the Desert Nationals and among those competing will be Gerladine Willox and her son Daniel.

Geraldine races in the Super Street category and said she had a Holden HJ Kingswood project sitting on blocks for some 15 years before she decided it was time to bite the bullet and go racing.

"Drag racing is the only motorsport I like," she said. "My other half Mick built the motor so now 'Crusty', our nickname for my car' can drive his little socks off.
