UPDATED - Qualifying underway at Portland

UPDATED - Qualifying for the first round of ANDRA's Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championships, being held at Fuchs South Coast Raceway this weekend, is now underway after having earlier been delayed due to rain.

Intermittent rains peppered the Portland area but the Bureau of Meteorology radar showed little further rain approaching and conditions improved.

Intermittent rains have been peppering the Portland area but the Bureau of Meteorology radar shows little further rain approaching and conditions are expected to improve.

Fuchs South Coast Raceway race secretary, Scott Cleary says the track team will work to dry the track as quickly as possible.

"We can run up until about 8.30pm so we'll be making every effort possible to dry the track again and racing underway," Clearly said.

"Once the current showers go it's looking clear so we should be good."

More than 130 competitors have entered the season opener at the impressive, club-run 1/8th mile facility, including four reigning Australian champions.
