Mahoney's racing and business partner, Phil Read praised the safety of their blown Ford Capri, giving the "thumbs up" to chassis builder Lance Walker and the work of track and safety officials.
"The hospital released Mick about 11pm and he's got a few bumps and bruises but thankfully he's ok," Read said.
"Lance built us a great car, and despite the impact nothing has moved inside the car, everything is in place where it should be, which was a great relief.
"The track officials, ambos, fireys and hospital staff were also A1 and we can't thank them enough for their fast work and attention."
Read said the cause of the accident remains a mystery.
"We really don't know. The car left like a rocket but for some unknown reason something's happened and it turned hard left.
"For the past few events we'd been battling to get the car off the line, but it went beautifully straight on the first qualifier and we had all the confidence in the world."
Read said both he and Mahoney had said "no more" last night, but would likely reconsider in a few weeks.
"Who knows, in four or five days it might be different..."
