Super Gas' Gauldie and Isherwood to test friendship at Willowbank
Just one point separates Dave Gauldie and Simon Isherwood in the race for the Queensland Drag Racing Championship's Super Gas title heading into this weekend's fifth round at Willowbank Raceway.
At three titles apiece, Gauldie and Isherwood have won every Super Gas track championship held at Willowbank, with Gauldie holding and 81-80 lead in this year's title chase with three rounds remaining.
Gauldie says facing off against his buddy encourages his competitive edge.
"We are friends off track, but when it comes to racing I step it up a bit and concentrate more on doing the best run I can when I am facing off against him – he brings out the best in me on track," Gauldie said.
"Having said that, you can't let your guard down with any of the Super Gas racers at the moment, you have to be looking for your best run against every single car that is out there right now, it is that close."
Isherwood says friendship goes out the window when the pair race each other.
"We have been close friends for around seven years now after meeting through this bracket, but you can be guaranteed that neither of us will be giving an inch right to the end of the season," Isherwood said.
"I definitely want to keep the title."
Joining Super Gas on-track at Willowbank Raceway this Saturday will be racers across the QDRC SuperComp, QDRC Comp Bike, Donnelly Blasting Services QDRC Outlaws, Knijff Earthmoving Modified, Powercruise Super Sedan, Prime Signs/Speed Elec Super Street, Modified Bike and Junior Dragster brackets.
The second running of the new QLD Pro Street and Grudge Racing Test Day concept will also take place with around 20 vehicles expected to be running hard throughout the day.
Entries are open via the Willowbank Raceway website until 5.00pm AEST Wednesday 13 August.
