Young replaces ill Thompson in Shack Attack
Bazz Young will pilot Shack Attack at the Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Car Night of Fire on 29 November with American Clint Thompson sidelined by medical issues.
Thompson was forced to postpone his Australian holiday after suffering a stroke last month, as well as withdraw from the final two rounds of the NHRA season, Las Vegas and Pomona.
“It’s a real shame for Clint as he had booked a four week holiday out here, so they have had to cancel all that as well, but as I told him, his health has to come first,” Shackleton said.
“His doctors have said he shouldn’t travel for long periods until the problem that caused the stroke is found and corrected.”
Despite being unable to take part in the Night of Fire, Shackleton said Thompson has an open invitation to drive Shack Attack.
His replacement Young said he’s looking forward to returning to Australia, having lived here from 1999 to 2007.
“This is another adventure,” Young said.
“Paul [Shackleton] has given me given me his brand new race car to drive and I’d like to break it in with a few win lights for him.
“I’d like to thank Paul for the opportunity and I can’t wait to get behind the wheel at Sydney Dragway and put on a show for the Australian race fans!”
Originally from the UK, Young now campaigns a Nitro Funny car from his home in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
The Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Car Night of Fire will take place at Sydney Dragway 29 November.
