Summit Series off to sizzling start at South Coast Raceway
Dom Rigoli, Stuart McBain, Doina Day, Jasmine Ryan, Stephen Griffin, Harry Harris, Jordan Spencer, Malcom Luff and Matt Forbes have all started 2015 with a win in the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series.
The event, the first of six on the calendar, took place at South Coast Raceway in Portland, Victoria.
Rigoli took out the Super Comp final with 4.490-second pass at 144.24 mph, while opponent Peter Pisalidis red light.
McBain won the inaugural Top Sportsman final with a 5.257 second run at 131.53 mph after Brett Henley jumped the start.
Defending Supercharged Outlaws champion Day continued her winning form, edging out Ryan Van Dyk.
Modified was taken out by Ryan, whose 0.024 second reaction time gave her the advantage over Chris Farrell’s 0.161 second reaction, and saw her claim the round.
In Super Sedans, Griffin ran a near perfect 6.162 second ET at 111.37 mph on his 6.16-second dial in, while Jason Arbery gave it away at the tree with a red light.
Meanwhile, in Modified Bike Luff was lucky to claim the victory after breaking out by just 0.008 seconds with rival Nathan Stone red lighting by 32 thousands of a second.
Harris faced fellow South Australian Enzo Clemente in the Super Street final, with Harris’ 7.314 second run on his 7.31 dial in beating Clemente’s 7.376 second pass on a 7.33 dial in.
Josh Baker handed the Junior Dragster win to Spencer after leaving the tree too early.
Back-to-back Super Gas champion Forbes returned to the top, chasing down Graeme Spencer to set a 6.424 over Spencer’s 6.565.
The second round of the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series will take place 30-31 January at Perth’s Motorplex.
