Roy Romeo takes early lead in Southern Super Gas Series
A sterling driving job at the 2012 Australian Nationals by Roy Romeo in the family's Super Gas Commodore resulted in him leading both the Southern Super Gas Series and the ANDRA Aeroflow Championship and taking home the coveted gold Christmas tree.
A first round double breakout win against top qualifier Warren Smith earned him the bye into the semi-finals where he took out Adelaide's Bruno Romeo before defeating current Australian Super Gas Champion Simon Isherwood in the final.
The Southern Super Gas Series allocates points for round wins but uses a unique method of allocating qualifying points based on the average of the qualifying time across all three sessions. Sydney racer Darryl Stephen in his Ford probe had the best average being 0.001 from the 9.90 index and Dave Gauldie and Roy were equal second with an average 0.002. Victorian Colin Griffin was a further thousandth away with a 0.003.
After the first round of the Southern Super Gas Series, Roy leads with Darryl Stephen in second and Dave Gauldie in third place.
Winners of the MSCN raffle were Anthony Panetta (Tyre Gauge) and Dave Gauldie (Brad Penn oil) with Bruno Romeo getting a carton of Brad Penn for traveling the longest distance.
The next round of the Southern Super Gas Series is at Portland's Fuchs South Coast Raceway on 5th and 6th January.
