Lucas looking for win in California cameo
Lucas Oil/ GEICO Top Fuel driver Morgan Lucas heads to Pomona for the 50th annual NHRA Finals this weekend looking to upset the order in the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series.
Lucas has made six appearances over the 2014 season, picking up a win at Brainerd, Minnesota and believes a win isn’t out of the equation at Pomona.
"We've got this part-time group that has performed so well in the half-dozen races we've competed at, including a huge win in Brainerd that no one expected,” Lucas said.
“I think we proved beyond a doubt that we can win. We have the personnel and the experience to step up, even in a part-time effort."
Lucas said treating each event as his last places more importance on a strong result.
“You sometimes stop and think that this may be your last race, at least for a while. That places an emphasis on giving it your all and trying everything you can to go out on top. You want to make an impression,” he said.
Pomona holds a special place in Lucas’ heart as the place his Drag Racing passion began.
"Pomona is a bit of a home track to me having grown up in So-Cal," Lucas said. "Indy is home now and we love it there, but California is where I fell in love with the sport and where I first found the desire to race,” Lucas said.
"Lucas Oil also has a big facility down in Corona, so I know a lot of employees will be joining us at the track. It's going to be a great weekend; even better if we win."
