Slamfest set to soar at Heathcote this weekend

Written by Pro Modified Australia. Posted in News

Slamfest - Pro Modified AustraliaMore than 24,000 horsepower will be on show at Heathcote Park Raceway this Saturday (19 January) when eight Top Doorslammers lead the way for round one of the 2013 Slamfest series.

From 11.00am to 9.00pm, the Victorian track located just an hour and a half away from the Melbourne CBD will feature not only eight of the country's fastest 'doored' cars but also a packed field of Supercharged Outlaw racers plus two Dial Your Own race categories.

Now entering its fourth year, the Slamfest Series sees Top Doorslammer racers from around the country competing across the eighth-mile distance at Australia's regional tracks.

"This weekend at Heathcote Park Raceway is destined to be a fitting opener for our 2013 Slamfest Series," said Series organiser and 2012 Series champion Peter Kapiris.

"Not only is this track the best in Victoria and in my opinion, one of the best in the nation behind the three major tracks, this weekend we will be hosting the top three from the national (ANDRA) title chase battling it out for bragging rights.

"The elapsed time and speed records for the eighth mile distance have also been hotly contested of late so that is sure to inspire some exciting racing. Until recently, current ANDRA champ John Zappia held both records before six-time ANDRA champ Victor Bray (ET) and I (speed record) snatched them away in late 2012!

"On top of all of that, you have some great sportsman racing also taking to the track with 14 Supercharged Outlaw racers and two Dial Your Own categories – it will be an action packed day from start to finish!"

Kapiris will be joined on-track in the Top Doorslammer field this weekend by Victor and Ben Bray, John Zappia, Russ Pavey, Marcus Chambers, Frank Mamone and John Brunner.

Gates will open at 9.00am with racing commencing at 11.00am. Children aged 14 years and under gain free entry while those aged 14 to 18years (as well as concession holders) can purchase tickets for just $25.00. Adult passes are available for $35.00 while family passes (2 adults and 2 kids or 1 adult and 3 kids) are available for just $75.00.

The 2013 Slamfest Series will be held over six plus rounds in 2013, including appearances at Heathcote Park Raceway (19 January), Portland's South Coast Raceway (16 February), Gladstone's Benaraby Raceway (29 June) and Mackay (Final round – 13 July 2013).
