Family Affair for Slamfest at Hidden Valley

While the interstate transporters of Australia's best Top Doorslammer teams prepare to roll towards Darwin several local families are also busy planning for Hidden Valley's biggest drag racing event this year.

The husband and wife team of Wayne and Karen Harris are set to hit the track on the 17-18th August in the Super Sedan and Super Street categories. Based on old school muscle Wayne is set to campaign a 1972 Holden powered by a 400 cubic inch V8 that is capable of low 10 second passes in the Super Street category.

After seeing the fun Wayne has had in both his current Holden and his plethora of sedans and dragsters, wife Karen has also decided to give the sport of drag racing a try and is set to debut a 502ci 1974 Holden in Super Street. Having not run the car before, she is playing coy on the cars potential.

The Harris family is not the only family based team competing at the event. The majority of Junior Dragster competitors all have methanol running through their veins after being born into the sport.

The brothers of Kayne and Travis Hagen are set to tackle current points leader, 11 year old Darcy Muller in the Junior Dragster category. With a solid 40 point lead over Kayne, Darcy's leadership won't be in jeopardy but a win for Kayne would bring a potential leadership challenge within reach before the end of the season. Kayne's father, Brad Hagen, is going to be performing triple duties. Not only will he be looking after both his son's, Brad will also be pitting his 1934 Ford against Wayne Harris in the Super Sedan category.

A similar story can be told for the Sperrer family with Maddison and Mitchell going head to head in the Junior Dragsters while dad Derreck will have driving duties in his supercharged 1940 Willy's.

One surprise missing from the line-up will be reigning Junior Dragster champion Jodie Coles. She is taking the weekend off to help dad Peter in his newly acquired 1968 Camaro Top Doorslammer as he takes on 9 other Top Doorslammer competitors.

Slamfest gets under way at Hidden Valley Drag Strip from 7pm on Friday 17 August and continues on Saturday 18 August.
