"Hi Guys n Girls,
On behalf the Sydney Dragway Board of Directors, Management and Race Weekend Team I would like to thank you all for your support and for helping to make the 2013 Nitro Champs such a great success.
So, what can I say but WOW, what a great weekend of top class Drag Racing action! Great weather, great crowds and an awesome atmosphere that could be felt throughout the entire venue. The 2013 Nitro Champs had everything and showcased the spectacle of just what this great sport of Drag Racing has to offer with close racing and world class performances.
However as with any motor sport there is always the risk of accidents and when you consider there was nearly 1500 passes that went down the track over the weekend you have 1500 chances of "stuff" to happen. We are happy to report Chris Matheson is recovering well at home after his major off at around 230 mph and Anthony Begley was back at the track on Sunday night with only a minor burn on one hand after his fiery trip into the breaking area. Both racers wish to thank everyone for their well wishes and especially the Fire & Safety Crew and Medical Staff for their quick response and excellent care.
We are still waiting confirmation from ANDRA however it appears there were 26 National Records and a whopping 34 Track Records reset with many more marks bettered but not backed up over the weekend.
Of course an event like this doesn't just happen, it takes many hours of preparation and planning by our Management Team with guidance from the Board, however it could not go ahead and run so smoothly if it wasn't for such a great Event Team, including the Ticketing Crew that are here bright and early to get everyone into the venue quickly, the Scrutineering and Registration Crew that processed around 2000 competitors, crew, media and other services over the weekend and the Cleaning Staff that worked constantly to keep the venue tidy.
Also to our dedicated Race Weekend track crew, including fire and safety, timing, seeding, bracket marshals, registration and scrutineering crews my heartfelt thanks goes out to you all, it is such a privilege to work alongside such an enthusiastic and dedicated team. Thank you to all the ANDRA Stewards that work tirelessly behind the scenes keeping a level playing field for all and keeping all our or racers safe, it's great to work as team with you all.
As stated earlier we had a great crowd and even though Sunday was a little down on the last event overall the results were very pleasing and Sydney Dragway is pleased to be able to offer 100% Prize Money payout for this event.
In closing I wish everyone that is travelling to the Winters at safe trip and a safe and fast race, see you all back here in November for the 48th Australian Nationals.
