Sportsman racers ready for last 'pre-winters' hit-out this weekend
This Saturday 18 May 2013 will host the last competitive hit-out at Willowbank Raceway prior to the beginning of 2013's FUCHS Winternationals festivities.
A very strong contingent of Queensland's best racers will be on track for this weekend's Sportsman event (a round of the Willowbank Raceway track championship) before competition ceases ahead of the largest drag racing event held outside of the US.
Willowbank Raceway Manager Steve Bettes said just three weeks remain until up to 500 racers and 40,000 spectators besiege Queensland's premier drag racing facility across June 7-10.
"This weekend's Sportsman event at Willowbank Raceway will be our last competitive event ahead of the FUCHS Winternationals, which are held over the Queen's Birthday long weekend," said Bettes.
"A strong contingent of Queensland's best drag racers are expected on track for what will be a hotly contested round of our track championship, with many of those racers also set to compete in June's 'greatest spectacle in drag racing'.
"With valuable track championship points as well as track-time ahead of the FUCHS Winternationals on offer, this weekend is sure to offer up some fantastic racing from our sportsman brackets.
"After the sportsman event, the next on-track action will signal the beginning of the FUCHS Winternationals festivities, with the official 'Warm-Up' across June 1 and 2."
This Saturday's event will see racers from the Knijff Earthmoving Modified, Powercruise Super Sedan, Prime Signs/Speed Elec Super Street, Gasoline Alley Harley Davidson Modified Bike, Donnelly Blasting Services Junior Dragster and Super Gas brackets hit the track for qualifying from 9.00am, with racing from 2.00pm.
Tickets are just $20.00 for adult spectators while students with ID can gain entry for just $18.00 and kids 13 and under can attend at no cost. For more information and full schedules please visit www.willowbankraceway.com.au.
