Record Setting Times at Track Championship Series
The second last round of the Track Championship Series was run on Saturday night at Hidden Valley Drag Strip and several brackets are still no closer to having a decisive winner in the end of season point score.
More records tumbled along the way with Scott MacLean piloting the AllTools Top Alcohol Funny Car to two sub-6 second passes. A 5.829 second pass at 248mph along with a 5.934 at 245mph. It was enough to reset the TA/FC record for Hidden Valley and may be enough to secure the King of the Valley trophy for 2012.
Matt Abel also ran his personal best time for Hidden Valley with a 6.087 at 235mph alongside Peter Coles with a 6.736 at 198mph.
Alice Springs based Mark Probst suffered mechanical failure that put him out for the night.
In local brackets Grant Rowe has stitched up the Super Sedan class, jumping 70 points clear of his closest rival after defeating Mick Dureau. Rowe finished with a 10.27 on a 10.23 dialin.
Modified Bike saw the first finals berth for Leith Darrach this year. He broke out, running a new personal best time of 9.072 on a 9.10 dialin which was enough to give the second win in a row to Dale Smith. Smith is now 40 points clear in the point score and secured the Mod Bike class for the year.
Super Street had Troy McGregor take his second win of the season and his fourth finals berth in a row. McGregor was too good against Shaun Boyer, running a 12.46 on a 12.45 dialin.
Mark Tattingham defeated Darren Savage in Street Bike and sees the pair tied on 90 points each for the season. With Savage selling his bike he is now in the market to find a replacement within two weeks.
Street is going to come down to the wire after Bob Czerniawski defeated Andrew Brideson after Brideson red lit. Three other teams are now within striking distance of Czerniawski including Greg Reed and Ellen Musk.
In Junior Dragster, Travis Hagen stalled at the line, handing the automatic win to Jodie Coles who now jumps 20 points clear of Darcy Muller and Travis Hagen in equal second.
Off Street racing returns this Friday night with gates opening at 6pm and racing from 7pm.
The Season Finale for the Track Championship Series will conclude on Saturday 22 September.
