Surfers Paradise streets to stage Drag Racing

Posted in News

Drag Racing will be showcased on the streets of Surfers Paradise at the V8 Supercars Castrol EDGE Gold Coast 600, with the 'Friday Night Drags' demonstation event, 23rd October.

Twenty of Australia’s top level drag racing teams will take part in Friday Night Drags as part including Top Fuel’s Steve Read and Anthony Begley, Top Alcohol’s Debbie O’Rourke and Steve Reed, Top Doorslammer driver Grant O’Rourke and Factory Xtreme racer Collin Willshire.

Grant O’Rourke believes the Gold Coast 600 presents a new audience and hopes the one night show will generate interest in Drag Racing.

“Friday Night Drags is a great concept. Debbie and I are really looking forward to putting on a display with our fellow racers to a crowd that perhaps might not have seen our kind of cars in action before,” he said.

“We’re really pleased to be involved in Queensland’s premier V8 Supercar event. Hopefully we can do a good job of showcasing the sport of drag racing, while giving the fans plenty to cheer about!”

O’Rourke Motorsport will also have their cars on display over the rest of the weekend at the Ferny Avenue end of the circuit.

“Both of our race cars will be on display for fans to look at and even sit in, and Grant and I will both be there to talk about drag racing and try and get people interested in the sport,” Debbie O Rourke said.

Grant and Debbie O’Rourke will then turn their attention to next weekend’s Australian Nationals at Sydney Dragway. Grant heads into the final round of the ANDRA Championship Top Doorslammer in third while Debbie is fifth in Top Alcohol.
