Bettes takes on Outlaw Nitro FC role

Steve BettesThe Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Car Series continues to gain momentum with news that the series has secured one of Australia's most experienced drag racing managers, Steve Bettes.

Bettes has served terms as the senior manager at some of Australia's biggest motorsport venues including Willowbank Raceway, Calder Park Raceway and Raceway Park, as well as working in some of Australia's premier circuit racing management organisations.

Aaron HambridgeOne of the most marketable racers in Australian drag racing is returning to the cockpit as former ANDRA Top Alcohol record holder and current Top Fuel tuner, Aaron Hambridge steps aboard 'The Bandit' for the Aeroflow Nitro Funny Car Xtravaganza at Sydney Dragway November 23.

"I love tuning the 'fuel' car, don't get me wrong. I'm a racer as well though and the idea of getting into this car and racing 'nitro' is pretty cool."

Hambridge most recently piloted a Top Alcohol dragster, which was one of the categories most potent cars in the tightly contested category.

"It will be a challenge," continued Hambridge.

Benaraby local leads the way for modified eighth mile racers

Michael Cameron - ModifiedRockhampton's Michael Cameron will lead the RD Williams Excavator Parts Modified bracket racers to Benaraby Raceway this weekend for the grand finale of the 2013 JP Racing Eighth Mile Drag Racing Series.

Gladstone's Benaraby Raceway is expected to play host to an estimated 100 plus racers this weekend (Saturday 28 September) with entrants coming from all across South East Queensland to fight for titles in six different race brackets, with the points chase the closest ever seen in the Series' four year history.

Cameron heads to his home track with a seven point advantage over Warwick racer Ian Ham after being introduced to the Series at its Benaraby round last year, where Cameron took part after completing his licensing that day, finishing runner-up to eventual 2012 bracket winner Bob Frawley.

Big and Little Bektash Looking for Spring Clean

Lee Bektash - Pro StockTeam Mopar Australia's main man and mini-me racer, Lee and Leon Bektash, head to Adelaide this weekend in the same transporter at the same time and with the same goal – to clean up at the Spring Nationals.

Bektash senior has had a late season charge with victory at the 2013 Nitro Champs and it's form he is looking to continue with and even share with son Leon.

"I love winning," explained Lee "but I think I would be twice as happy for Leon if he were to take home some trophies."

"Drag racing is very much a family sport and racing with my son is one of the many things that I love about this sport. It's pretty amazing to be able to do this with my boy," explain an obviously proud Lee.

JP Racing 1/8th mile series results

JP RacingThe JP Racing Eighth Mile Drag Racing Series Grand Final at Benaraby Raceway was shaping up to be a very good event with 100 racers but the sport's nemisis - rain - began falling after qualifying and the event was cancelled.

Series Winners were determined as per the Eighth Mile Rain Out Policy and all brackets with the exception of FG Loy & Sons Earthmoving Old School which Lyn Stewart won by a modest margin were very tight.

Ben Bray - Top DoorslammerTeam Bray Racing's Ben Bray has claimed Top Doorslammer victory during the ANDRA Spring Nationals held this weekend at Adelaide International Raceway.

'The Kid' faced off against defending Top Doorslammer champion John Zappia in the finale, with his 5.170 second performance at 211 miles per hour seeing him take the win over the West Australian's 5.20s/222mph effort.

The Queenslander had to fight every step of the way for the win, starting with an all-night complete engine rebuild necessitated by a torched piston following Friday evening's qualifying.

Willowbank Raceway appoints event management expert to CEO role

Tony Manson  - New Willowbank CEOThe Management Committee of Willowbank Raceway is pleased to announce the appointment of noted events and sports management identity Tony Manson to the role of Chief Executive Officer, effective October 1st 2013.

Replacing the role of General Manager which was previously held by Steve Bettes, the CEO role will see Manson responsible for all track and event management duties while reporting to the Willowbank Raceway Management Committee and its President Tony Wedlock.

Manson brings 30 years of events and sports management experience to Queensland's premier drag racing facility, with specialist skills including business analysis and restructuring; operational event planning and management; sports event management; facilities development; and sport series administration and development.

Pressure on for points leader Jason Grima

Jason Grima - Pro StockANDRA Pro Stock Championship point's leader Jason Grima will feel the pressure when his PC Group Ford Mustang rolls into Adelaide International Raceway for the second time this season. He has a slight 18-point lead over his nearest competitor and there are just two rounds left!

Back in October 2012, it was at the first round of the Pro Stock championship where vandals had damaged the AIR surface prior to the event. The drivers deemed the track unsafe for competition and were awarded 40 points apiece.

As such the Lady Daly Spring Nationals on September 20-21, will see the Sydney racer make his official AIR Pro Stock appearance on the South Australian track.
