Reigning Australian Super Sedan Champion, John Kapiris is putting in the early miles in his quest for back-to-back titles.

After attending last weekend's first ASDRS round at Portland's Fuchs South Coast Raceway, the Adelaide-based racer is driving the 3,250+ kilometres to the Perth Motorplex for this weekend's second round.

Former Top Fuel champion, Phil Lamattina will debut a new McKinney chassis at this weekend's opening round of the ANDRA Drag Racing Series, the Nitro Max at the Perth Motorplex.

Riding high on long-time sponsor Fuchs signing on for a tenth consecutive year, Lamattina said reclaiming the ANDRA crown is the team's goal.

UPDATED WITH EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH MICK MAHONEY - Supercharged Outlaws competitor Mick Mahoney was released from Portland Hospital late last night with only "bumps and bruises" following his huge accident at Fuchs South Coast Raceway.

Mahoney's racing and business partner, Phil Read praised the safety of their blown Ford Capri, giving the "thumbs up" to chassis builder Lance Walker and the work of track and safety officials.

UPDATED - Qualifying for the first round of ANDRA's Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championships, being held at Fuchs South Coast Raceway this weekend, is now underway after having earlier been delayed due to rain.

Intermittent rains peppered the Portland area but the Bureau of Meteorology radar showed little further rain approaching and conditions improved.
