Second Southern Series Announced by Australian Super Gas Racers

The Australian Super Gas Racers will run a five-round Southern Super Gas Series this drag racing season, with four dates confirmed.

With the first round scheduled for Sydney Dragway's Australian Nationals in November 2012 and concludes with the 5th round at Fuchs South Coast Raceway in Portland on Sunday 2nd of March 2013.

Series spokesman Michael Bibby commented "For last season's inaugural series our aim was to get Super Gas racing re-established in Victoria as well as entice some race cars out of the shed. While entry levels were modest both objectives were achieved and that has given us the encouragement to go ahead with another season. A further aim was not to diminish ANDRA Championship racing by drawing Super Gas entries away from those events."

"For Series II we will use the results of the 2012 Nationals in November of this year and the Aeroflow Sportsman series from Portland's 5th & 6th of January event. Fuchs South Coast Raceway is a great 1/8th mile facility and I am sure that some of our Northern competitors will come down and enjoy the laidback atmosphere with tough competition that is Portland".

The Portland events will be run over the eighth mile with a 6.30 second index, and the Sydney round will be contested over the full quarter mile with the standard 9.90 second ANDRA index.

Southern Super Gas Series competitors have two opportunities to earn points at each round – the best average elapsed time during qualifying and regular race results.

There is no series entry fee with all Super Gas entries eligible to earn points.

2013 Southern Super Gas Series Calendar

• 2- 4th November 2012 - Sydney Nationals Aeroflow Sportsman round - Entry as per Sydney Dragway requirements. Elimination racing on 9.90 index.
• 5 – 6th January 2013 – Round 2 – Fuchs South Coast Raceway (Portland) - Aeroflow Sportsman round - Entry as per track requirement- Index as per ANDRA.
• 1 - 2nd February - Round 3 - Fuchs South Coast Raceway (Portland) - Slamfest - Round robin - $150 entry fee/prizemoney structure – 6.30 index.
• Round 4 - TBA
• 2nd March - Round 5 - Fuchs South Coast Raceway (Portland) - Victorian Sportsman shootout - - Round robin - $150 entry fee/prizemoney structure – 6.30 index.
