NT Quarter Mile Titles get ready to rumble this weekend

Matt Abel - Top DoorslammerThe 2013 NT Titles Presented by 7MATE is set to rumble Hidden Valley Drag Strip this weekend when the Territory's best drag racers take to the quarter mile on Friday and Saturday nights.

Friday kicks off from 7pm with qualifying sessions for everyone from the grass roots Junior Dragsters, 2 wheeled Modified Bikes, wheel standing Super Sedans and the Territory's locally based Top Doorslammer and Top Alcohol teams of Matt Abel, Peter Coles, Scott MacLean and Mark Probst from Alice Springs.

Friday night also sees the now annual burnout competition with several heavy hitters from across Australia making the journey to the Top End.

Last-round winner Ben Bray to lead Slamfest series to Mackay

Ben Bray wins at BenarabyTeam Bray Racing’s Ben Bray will be one to watch when the final round of the 2013 Slamfest Series hits Mackay’s Palmyra Raceway on Saturday 13 July.

Not only is the 29 year old from Kallangur the last-round winner, he also holds the Mackay elapsed time (5.85s) and speed (252mph) track records courtesy of his 2007 trip down the facilities’ quarter-mile distance in his Top Alcohol funny car.

Next weekend, he will be at the wheel of his Sidchrome Top Doorslammer, taking on seven other 3,500 horsepower ‘doored’ beasts across the eighth-mile in what is the final round of the 2013 Series.

Willy White - Outlaw Nitro Funny CarNew Zealand’s quickest and fastest drag racer - Willy White - will be heading to Sydney to take on the best Australian and American racers at the Outlaw Nitro Funny Car Extravaganza, at Sydney Dragway November 23, 2013.

White, who runs a Nitro Funny Car in his native New Zealand, is keen to get to Sydney and add some more international flavour to what is shaping up as one of Australia’s most diverse and engaging racing events.

“Sydney Dragway is one of the world’s best drag racing venues and I think this event is going to be one of the best events ever and I can’t wait to part of, it’s as much about entertainment as it is racing. But make no mistake we want to kick some Aussie and US butt! When we’re on the startline, it’s go time.”

Star-power set to descend on Palmyra Raceway this weekend

Russ Pavey - SlamfestNo less than 31 ANDRA National Championship Titles are boasted by the field of eight 3,500 horsepower Top Doorslammer machines which will descend upon Palmyra Raceway this Saturday 13 July for the 2013 Slamfest Series Finale.

It will be the first time the Mackay drag racing facility has hosted the Slamfest Series, which is now in its fourth year and sees Top Doorslammer racers from around the country competing across the eighth-mile distance at Australia's regional tracks.

A look at the credentials of those signed up for this Saturday's Series finale provides some impressive figures, including 16 championships held by just one man – Gary Phillips – as well as nine between the father and son team of Victor (six back-to-back titles) and Ben (three titles) and five back-to-back titles for the reigning ANDRA quarter-mile champion John Zappia.

Shane Tucker retiresAustralian Pro Stock gun, Shane Tucker, has made the tough decision to quit racing the bracket that has seen him become one of the sport’s most recognised and promotable faces.

After graduating from drag racing’s entry-level Junior Dragster category, Tucker went on to race a number of Pro Stock cars under the Rob Tucker Racing banner, culminating in a dominant performance at the recent Fuchs Winternationals in the Monster Energy GXP.

“It’s one of the hardest things I have ever had to do,” explained Tucker.

“It brings a tear to my eye, but I have had eight great years racing Pro Stock and we have had some great memories and have achieved some great things.”

ANDRA Drag Racing returns to Calder Park Raceway

ANDRA 40 Years Logo smlIt's official – ANDRA Championship Drag Racing is returning to Calder Park Raceway.

In front of a packed house of Victorian ANDRA and club members, CEO Malcolm Bulley delivered the news that all racers and fans were hoping to hear, drag racing is back in Melbourne, the sporting capital of Australia.

The first major event will be held on Saturday the 19th of October 2013, featuring ANDRA Championship rounds for Top Fuel, Top Bike and Pro Stock Bike.

Willowbank Raceway manager Steve Bettes moves on

Willowbank LogoThe Willowbank Raceway Management Committee has today announced that long-time manager Steve Bettes has moved on from the facility.

Acting President Tony Wedlock said the Committee wishes Bettes all the best for the future.

"Steve has been with us since May of 2005, and as he is approaching the end of his existing employment contract with Willowbank Raceway, he has chosen to move on to new horizons and other work opportunities," said Wedlock.
