He developed his own Top Fuel operation and with a personal best time of 4.68sec performance is not an issue. Read runs his own transport business and has had limited time for racing over the past few seasons, competing at only the 2011 and 2012 Winternationals in his home state.
Adelaide presents unique challenges to the Top Fuel teams. The category will compete over a 1000 feet race distance due to the venue's short braking area, something Read doesn't mind.

"You get off the throttle that bit earlier and for a few teams it helps save on parts."

A new clutch system Read used at the Fuchs Winternationals in June paid dividends with a 4.69sec clocking only just off his personal best and he says his team comes into its own where track conditions are different.

"It's just a matter of tuning to the conditions; I learned on tricky tracks how to tune cars."
