Supa Charger receives Portland power ups

Daniel Schultz’s Supa Charger Nitro Funny Car has received an upgraded fuel pump and ignition system ahead of its appearance at Portland’s Fuchs South Coast Raceway on 3 January.

Team owner Greg Schultz said Supa Charger was due for the improvements, but a weaker showing at the Night of Fire event forced their hand for an earlier installation.

“We were always going to up the specs of the pump and magneto, purely from a safety point of view,” Schultz said.

“It means we don’t have to rev the engine as hard and we can be kinder on the equipment.

“In Sydney, we had just a couple of small issues, that just took the edge off of our tune-up.  The newer magneto technology just eliminates the potential for dramas.”

The new set up also includes the spectacular exhaust header flames the Nitro Funny Cars are renowned for.

“Of course I want header flames! Nitro cars sound angry with their unique ‘cackle’ and this means they look as good as they sound,” Schultz said.

Schultz is an experienced Competition Eliminator and Top Fuel competitor and is looking to repeat last year’s Portland performance.

“The last event for us was not our best but we have managed to take a win there and we’ll be looking to do the same this year,” Daniel Schultz said.

“Thanks to Dad and all of the boys down at the race shop, we have the Charger set to go quicker and faster than last year.

“I can’t wait to see the header flames through the side windows of the car and they’ll need to be on full song.”

Ten Outlaw nitro Funny Cars are nominated for the Aeroflow event, including former ANDRA Top Fuel Champion Darren Morgan.
