The Australian Nostalgia Fuel Association has today named the recipients of the Pioneer Awards and the Legends of the Quarter Mile to be celebrated in late September at ANFA’s annual awards ceremony.

The ANFA Pioneer and Legends Awards, held this year on September 27 at Sydney Dragway, celebrate an elite band of competitors in Australian drag racing history.

In addition to the accolade, award recipients will receive a wooden plaque. They will also have their names added to Stainless Steel plaques on permanent display at Sydney Dragway.

There are six Pioneers for 2014, including Ross Mellish, John Maher, Ron Harrop, Paul Rogers, Rod Marchant and Jon Van Daal.

The Legends for this year include Bob Campbell and Chris Mills from Western Australia, Brian Hutchesson and Len Leonard from South Australia, Victorians Peter Clarke and Peter Wileman (well-known for the ‘Shaker’ Holden Monaro [pictured above], and for working with Peter Russo and Rachelle and Ian Splatt), Mick Borg and Ed Stipanovich from New South Wales, plus George Wegener and John White of Queensland.
Colin Russell from Victoria has been named as recipient of the Outstanding Achievement award, for his lifetime contribution to drag racing across a wide variety of roles.

The Awards proceedings begin at 12pm on September 27, with the Legends ceremony starting at 2.30pm.
