Top Fuel Motorcycle Champion Chris Porter has confirmed that he will compete at next weekend’s Australian Nationals, ahead of his highly anticipated return to the category in 2015.

Porter, whose Nitro Harley exploded at the Fuchs Winternationals in June, has faced an epic rebuild of his bike including cylinder heads, wiring, air lines and the crank damaged during the melee.

The two-wheel Top Fuel racer is naturally looking forward to his track return.

“The rebuild was a complete strip down to bare frame, new motor, wiring, air lines. It pretty well melted everything,” Porter said.

“I still haven’t got the bike back yet. It’s in Queensland being wired up so I hope to have it back in time for testing at Sydney Dragway.

Looking ahead to 2015, Porter is excited by the prospect of racing new number one Mark Drew and three-time champion Chris Matheson.

“Mark with his new USA rocket ship, and Matho bringing the ex-Vance n’ Hines Nitro Harley of Doug Vancil, it should be some good low six second side by side passes,” he said.

“Mark and I are in the same club, so we're happy that one of us has the number one [rank]. He spent the last year in the USA and Western Australia finding the best bike, and he did.

“It’s Doug Horne's USA number one Harley Davidson for the last three years. I’ve seen the darter and the last 10 passes were all 6.20 something. Right place, right time.”

The Australian Nationals will be held at Sydney Dragway next weekend, October 31-November 2, with action getting underway next Friday from 9am.
